The Grove

The Grove

The Grove now adds geometry nodes for twig duplication, and simulation layers are written to attributes – two transitions that offer more creative freedom, speed and efficiency. You get to see the tree grow while the simulation is running, for a much smoother user experience. An extra layer of wind adds a breeze to the twigs.

Continued improvements to all existing tools create an even more refined experience. Newly added tools like stash and undo will make your life easier. And the much anticipated roots tool is just so much fun to play with!

New features include geometry nodes for twig duplication and simulation layers now written to properties – two transitions that offer more creative freedom, speed, and efficiency. You can now see the tree grow while the simulation is running, and an additional wind layer is available to add wind effects to the branches, grove term for the final branches and leaves. Several improvements have been made to existing tools along with newly added tools such as save and undo.

Features of The Grove

  • All direction sliders will decrease to -1. Plants almost never have this. They can be factor sliders if they are in the range 0 – 1.
  • Do not translate attribute class names. It will make exporting the tree and working together a mess.
  • The radial look is now resolution independent. I added a user option to adjust the size of the widgets if they appear small or large on your screen.
  • Increase the viewport detail of the branches. The GPU has been improved and newer branches have less polygons.
  • Rename the drop “Shaded Shoots” to “Shaded”. The old name was more specific to distinguish it from the separate “Ghosted Ending”, but that parameter has been removed.
  • The default Repeat UV is set to 3 instead of 2.
  • The Shape Keys dial in the wind animation tool has the precision mode set to steps of 2.
  • If you want to match the wind loop to an existing animation and that animation requires 25 shape keys for the total duration. 50 frames, you won’t be able to set the dial to 25. The precision of the dial is now set to 1.
  • Disable the preferred end scope and remove it from the interface.
  • The twig view detail doesn’t work on twig collections – it works now.
  • And there are many, many other small improvements both on the surface and under the hood that make The Grove solid.
