Gtools Ivy is one of the most valuable add-ons to your work but it doesn’t cost you a dime. Trust me, this nifty little plugin is incredibly easy to use and has in-depth controls that put even paid plugins to shame. Ivy Generator has been around for almost a decade, giving 3ds Max users like us the ability to realistically simulate the growth of an Ivy or a Vines in our context. The use of such diverse vegetation in the scene gives it a feeling of natural authenticity. And using this plugin to its full potential is exactly what I will show you today. In this tutorial, I will cover all its features in simple words in the language so that you can set it up and use it right away.
Most addons for max are either plugin or maxscript, The reason I decided to use a combination of both is because first and second is because I hate to open an old project that uses a plugin that is no longer available, Because so this plugin /script combo doesn’t leave any traces, it just generates simple geometry.
The plugin does all the hard work of growing the actual ivy and generating the mesh, The maxscript part is just the UI, Materials and creating the Corona scatter.

How to install Gtools Ivy
- Need install 3ds Max First
- 3Dsmax can have the macros/scripts in different locations depending on how the useUserProfiles is setup in the file InstallSettings.ini.
- if you have it set to useUserProfiles=0
then copy the files to: - C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2023\Plugins\gtools_Ivy_2023.gup
