Ucupaint
Ucupaint is an exceptional add-on for Blender, offering a wide array of powerful tools and features to streamline the texturing process. Its user-friendly interface coupled with advanced capabilities makes it an indispensable asset for 3D artists and designers.
Ucupaint (formerly known as yUcupaint) is an add-on for Blender, developed by a talented programmer nicknamed “ucupumar”. The goal of this add-on is simple: to provide a layer stacking experience similar to Photoshop or Substance Painter, but running directly on Blender’s node platform.
The problem with the original Blender (Vanilla Blender):
When you want to create a complex material in Blender, you have to wire dozens of nodes together: Mix Shader, Image Texture, Color Ramp, Math Node… After just 10 minutes, your screen will look like a messy plate of spaghetti nodes. Finding and fixing a small scratch or changing colors becomes a nightmare.
Ucupaint provides a comprehensive set of painting tools, including brushes, texture stamping, and blending modes, enabling users to create intricate and realistic textures with remarkable ease. Furthermore, its seamless integration with Blender’s workflow ensures a smooth and efficient texturing experience. With Ucupaint, artists can achieve stunning, professional-grade textures, enhancing the overall quality of their 3D projects. See more .NET Framework All In One Offline
Features of Ucupaint
- Advanced Painting Tools: The add-on provides a diverse selection of painting tools, such as brushes, texture stamping, and blending modes, allowing for precise and intricate texture creation.
- Layer Stack System
- This is the most important feature. Instead of thinking in terms of nodes, you think in terms of layers:
- Bottom layer: Rusty metal.
- Middle layer: Red paint.
- Top layer: Dirt. Ucupaint automatically handles blending these layers together. It fully supports familiar blending modes such as Multiply, Overlay, Add, Screen, Mix…
- Multi-Channel Management
- In Substance Painter, when you draw a brushstroke, that stroke can contain information about color, height/normal, and roughness. Ucupaint does the same. You can turn channels on/off on each layer. For example, you create a layer just to add a greasy shine without changing the object’s color. This level of detail control makes PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials incredibly realistic.
- Powerful Masking System
- Masks are the soul of texturing. Ucupaint offers many types of masks:
- Image Mask: Use a hand-painted brush to fill in black and white, defining the visible area.
- Vertex Color Mask: Use the color of the grid peaks to create a mask.
- ID Map Mask: Separate parts of an object based on a pre-baked ID color map.
- Procedural Mask: This is a strength of Blender that Ucupaint leverages. You can add automatic noise to create random scratches, moss, and other textures without having to manually paint each detail.
- Integrated Baking (Map Baking)
- For beautiful texturing, you need supporting maps such as Ambient Occlusion (AO – narrow gap shading) or Curvature (used to fray edges). Ucupaint integrates the Bake tool directly into the interface. You simply click the “Bake All Channels” button, and the addon will automatically calculate and create these maps for creating effects (for example, wearing paint on sharp edges based on the Curvature map).
- Layer Support: Ucupaint includes a layer system that enables users to work non-destructively, organizing and adjusting textures efficiently.
- Real-Time Preview: Artists can see real-time previews of the textures they are creating, facilitating instant feedback and adjustments.
- Integration with Blender: Seamless integration with Blender’s interface and workflow ensures a cohesive and efficient texturing experience.
- Texture Library: The add-on may come with a built-in texture library, providing a collection of pre-made textures for quick and convenient use.
- Texture Export: Users can export the created textures in various file formats, making it easy to integrate them into their projects.
