Battle Axe Overlord
If you work in motion design, you’ve probably encountered this situation: you design in Illustrator (or Figma/Photoshop), then in After Effects you have to import the file, convert it to shapes, separate layers, fix anchors, rename it, not to mention repeating the import-replace-fix cycle every time the client makes a slight adjustment. The work isn’t difficult, but it’s extremely time-consuming and prone to errors.
Battle Axe Overlord was created to cut through that very ordeal: it helps you quickly transfer 2D artwork to After Effects, preserving the design spirit and allowing you to focus on the most important part: animation.
Overlord is a set of two panels that, when both open, create a portal between Illustrator and After Effects. This mystical Stargate lets you transform shapes as you need them, while animating without organizing files, importing, converting to shape layers, or redrawing. This is the vector workflow you would imagine working with apps made by the same company.
Ae shape layers can also be transferred back to Illustrator for editing with more powerful drawing tools. Think of it like using Illustrator as a plugin for After Effects. See more Aescripts Color Llama

import instructions - Switch baselines and scale grids with one click. Not available with standard Ai import.
- Transfer vector elements from Illustrator to After Effects without a cumbersome import process (the tool’s main goal).
- Supports text and gradients in the conversion process (something that previously required a lot of rebuilding).
- Extends the workflow to Figma and Photoshop for cross-platform design-motion synchronization.
- Some updates mentioned include the addition of Photoshop connectivity in the Overlord 2.6 branch (depending on which version you are using).
- Battle Axe Overlord is a very worthwhile option if you frequently switch between design and After Effects. When a project has many vectors, icons, and multiple edits, Overlord significantly saves you time in file creation and reduces repetitive errors. You’ll find the workflow smoother, focusing on motion and emotion instead of cleaning up layers.
