Djh Terranode
DJH TerraNode is a collection of node-based terrain modifiers for Blender. When making terrain, I often want to place details where I find them important, but I usually do not want to take the time to sculpt every little mound and rivulet . . . To marry those two contradictory facts, I made these terrain tools.
DJH TerraNode is a set of node modifiers specifically designed for Blender, designed to help users build terrain from basic planes to complex landscapes. Instead of having to sculpt each point by hand, TerraNode allows you to combine a series of modifiers such as noise, erosion, terrace, valley, or scatter by simply dragging and dropping nodes.
The strength of TerraNode lies in its procedural flexibility: you can go back and edit the original parameters without losing the subsequent edits. This is especially useful when you need to change the entire shape of a hill or river but still want to keep the details of the materials, trees, or lighting that you added earlier. - Powerful Node Modifiers
- TerraNode includes over 20 modifiers specifically designed for creating and editing terrain. These modifiers include:
- Base Generator: Creates a base terrain base, defining its size and resolution.
- Noise & Fractal Generator: Creates rough, random terrain for mountain or hill surfaces.
- Erosion Modifier: Simulates natural erosion for more realistic terrain.
- Terrace & Plateau: Creates steps or flat areas for residential areas, terraced fields.
- Soften & Smooth: Smooths the surface to avoid rough edges.
- Each modifier can be stacked and adjusted flexibly, allowing you to combine multiple effects to achieve the desired result.
- 2.2. Support for Guide Objects to Control Terrain
- Another powerful feature of TerraNode is the ability to use guide objects – such as curves or surfaces – to control the shape of the terrain.
- You can use curves to define the direction of rivers, roads, valleys or geological divisions. TerraNode will automatically follow these guides to “pull” and “fill” the terrain accurately, minimizing manual mesh editing.
- 2.3. Scatter System – Scatter natural objects
- DJH TerraNode has an integrated intelligent scatter system, allowing trees, rocks, grass or objects to be scattered randomly according to slope, height, light direction or selected area.
- You can create an attribute map to control the area where trees, water or rocks appear, making the landscape more vivid and realistic.
- In addition, TerraNode comes with many preset scatters for quick initialization, and also supports adding your own custom objects.
- 2.4. Professional Terrain Export
- A great advantage of TerraNode is the ability to export terrain data to textures, including:
- Heightmap
- Normal map, RGBA map
- RAW or EXR for other software
- You can export terrain from Blender for use in Unity, Unreal Engine, Houdini or any other graphics engine. This expands the application of TerraNode not only in 3D scene design but also in game development and visual effects films.
- 2.5. Terrain Tiling System
- When working with large maps, TerraNode supports dividing the scene into separate tiles for easy management and performance optimization.
- Each tile can be edited independently but still seamlessly with the adjacent tile thanks to the seamless tiling system.
- This feature is extremely useful for large-scale projects such as open-world games or movies with complex natural scenes.
